Pn. Malcolm et al., ARTERIOVENOUS-FISTULA AT THE SITE OF BALLOON DILATATION COMPLICATING FEMOROPOPLITEAL ANGIOPLASTY, Cardiovascular and interventional radiology, 20(1), 1997, pp. 54-56
We describe an arteriovenous fistula (AVF) at the site of balloon dila
tation immediately after percutaneous transluminal angioplasty (PTA) o
f the femoropopliteal artery. This occurred during an otherwise uncomp
licated angioplasty with a good clinical result. The AVF closed sponta
neously within 2 months as monitored by color duplex ultrasound. This
uncommon complication of PTA is not widely recognized.
