KEKULENE AND ANTIKEKULENE

Kekulene, antikekulene and related structures are discussed in terms o f the current aromaticity and reactivity indices. Kekulene is predicte d to be aromatic and stable. This prediction is in agreement with expe rimental findings. Antikekulene is predicted to be nonaromatic and rea ctive. The synthesis of antikekulene has not yet been accomplished, bu t it seems that its preparation is imminent. Nevertheless, our predict ions indicate that the preparation of antikekulene is going to be diff icult.
