Several parameters affecting formation of fatty acid 4-methyl-7-methox
ycoumarin esters have been investigated. The reaction time, temperatur
e, concentration and the nature of the basic reagent were varied to ob
tain good yield of the derivatives. 18-Crown-6/K2CO3 phase transfer ca
talyst was successfully substituted with tetraethylammonium hydroxide.
The modified method of the fatty acids labelling gave good reproducib
ility (below 6% RSD at nmole level) and detection limit.
