Photochemistry of naphthalenic dyes. Naphthalenic dyes are used in the
textile industry and as lasing molecules in dye lasers. In this work,
we study their spectroscopic and photochemical properties. All these
compounds are stable in the light (phi(d) congruent-to 10(-3)) but do
not all have the same quantum yield of fluorescence (4 x 10(-2) < phi(
f) < 1). This value depends on the nature of the substituent on the ar
omatic ring. The mechanism of degradation involves the presence of rad
icals and is dependent on the solvent.
