The results of numerical integrations, based on the orbit of P/Shoemak
er-Levy 9 available in June 1993, have definitely shown that many, if
not all, of the fragments of the comet will collide with Jupiter in Ju
ly 1994. This paper, written at the-time of the Belgirate ACM '93 Meet
ing, should be regarded as of historical importance: many more observa
tions have been made since then, and are being-made at present, making
the numerical computations reported here quite obsolete. The comet fr
agments are now under continuous surveillance;
