Thermal desorption spectroscopy has been used to detect the gaseous pr
oducts which are formed in the coadsorbed layer of potassium and carbo
n dioxide on Fe(110) in dependence on both potassium coverage and temp
erature. The chemical nature of the desorbed species (CO2 and CO) as w
ell as their desorption temperatures depend on the potassium coverage.
The results are in excellent agreement with predictions made on the b
asis of quantitative evaluation of O1s XP spectra in a preceding paper
.
