The crystal and molecular structures of 4-(N,N'-dimethylamino)benzonit
rile (DMABN), C9H10N2, in its lower-temperature solid phase at 173 K a
re reported and compared with those in the higher-temperature solid ph
ase at 301 K. The molecular packing arrangement is correlated with som
e optical spectroscopic properties of the crystal.
