Abstract
The technique of closed field unbalanced magnetron sputtering has been adapted to allow coating of irregularly shaped components by barrel p lating. The internal geometry of the barrel has been developed to ensu re uniformity of coating thickness and composition both over the surfa ce of a single component and between components in any batch. Examples are shown of aircraft fasteners coated with aluminium-magnesium alloy s.
