The linear elastic dynamic response of isotropic short curved pipes su
bjected to impulsive loading is considered. A series solution based on
the Mushtari-Vlasov-Donnell (MVD) shell theory is derived in toroidal
coordinates for a comparisons with the Sanders theory for static load
ing. The response of pipes is then found for impulsive loading, consis
ting of a single pad of uniformly distributed normal pressure acting o
n the shell surface. Sample results are given for short curved (toroid
al) pipes with loadings applied at the extrados and at the intrados. T
hese results are compared with results for corresponding straight (cyl
indrical) pipes.
