An analytical solution is presented to the elastostatic problem of the
band loading of a thick-walled toroidal shell. The solution is formul
ated using the displacement-based toroidal elasticity theory. The gove
rning three-dimensional equations are solved approximately by a pertur
bation method. The loading and the solution for displacement and stres
s are given as Fourier series. An example, dealing with a complete thi
ck-walled toroidal shell subjected to four band loads, is considered i
n detail. Results obtained using the analytical solution are compared
with results from the finite element method.
