As part of a wider study to assess the potential of quartz optical dat
ing in accurately estimating the age of fluvial samples from a range o
f important geological and archaeological environments, two samples fr
om Tattershall, Lincolnshire, U.K. were dated. The preliminary optical
dates are in good agreement with other absolute dating techniques and
geological interpretations, demonstrating the potential of quartz to
provide chronological information over a wide time range for fluvial s
and samples.
