Oxygen vacancies are created in quartz by artificial gamma-ray irradia
tion at two stages with very low efficiencies. G values (G: number of
vacancies created per 100eV) were found to be 4.7x10(-4) and 2.6x10(-5
) at heat-treated E(1)(') intensities. The intensities are consistent
with those observed in natural quartz in granites, when external doses
given by beta and gamma rays to quartz in granites are taken into acc
ount with the above efficiencies.
