ESR ages were obtained for three members of Valles Rhyolite in New Mex
ico, U.S.A., using quartz. The ages obtained by using Al center were s
ystematically younger than the ones using Ti center. The results of an
nealing experiments indicate that part of the centers could have been
reduced while the samples had been buried. It is proposed to use a sta
ble component of Ti centers for dating.
