Abstract
The results of measurements of radium concentration in size classified minerals of zircon, monazite, ilmenite and rutile (the components of mineral sands) are presented. On the basis of these measurements it wa s concluded that radium distribution in ilmenite is homogeneous; in mo nazite is of a surface type and in zircon the outer layer is higher in radium than the inner core. More studies are needed for full characte risation of rutile. The effect of radium distribution on radon emanati on is discussed.
