Kl. Overall, USE OF CLOMIPRAMINE TO TREAT RITUALISTIC STEREOTYPIC MOTOR BEHAVIOR IN 3 DOGS, Journal of the American Veterinary Medical Association, 205(12), 1994, pp. 1733-1741
Stereotypic behavior in dogs may be a sign of obsessive-compulsive dis
order. Treatment with clomipramine, along with behavioral modification
and administration of other drugs, may be helpful in ameliorating the
inappropriate behavior. Considerations in the diagnosis and managemen
t of such behavioral problems include exclusion of other causes of cli
nical signs, treatment of secondary complications of the behavioral di
sorder, and consideration of adverse effects and human abuse potential
when prescribing psychotropic drugs.
