A brief review is given of selected experiments which illustrate the s
pecial contributions now being made in the study of silicate glasses (
and other non-crystalline materials) by using neutrons and synchrotron
X-rays together with modern computational modelling. The techniques c
overed include neutron diffraction, isotopic substitution, neutron ine
lastic scattering, X-ray anomalous scattering, small volume scattering
and X-ray absorption spectroscopy.
