Abstract
Society's perception of acceptable practise has changed. Increasingly, moral and legislative pressures are being applied to ensure congruenc e between industry's practise and society's requirements. The cost to the adhesive industry has been, and will continue to be high. The pape r examines the implications of society's requirements in some detail a nd reviews the steps being taken by the industry to offset the cost of conformance through the exploitive innovation of new products and ser vices together with sound management.
