The light-induced correction to the Rutherford cross section, linear i
n the intensity, is derived, with an accurate account for the Coulomb
potential in the nonrelativistic dipole approximation. Various limits
are investigated. A specific asymmetry is discovered, which consists i
n a dependence of the cross section on the sign of the photon circular
polarization.
