Hj. Wilke, THE GAP BETWEEN THE GENERATIONS AND 2 MOD ES OF LEARNING IN CONTINUING-EDUCATION - NOTES ON SUPERVISION, Analytische Psychologie, 25(4), 1994, pp. 255-261
Denying the natural process of aging with the help of the archetype of
the Old Sage can produce a generation gap, through which understandin
g and interaction may be impeded. In supervision most problems of agin
g are produced by the reduction of self-critical perception and reflec
tion, a reduced threshold of shame and the increase of introversion. I
n order to reduce the resultant conflict dynamic, the authority-orient
ed learning experienced during training might be compensated by introd
ucing learning in peer groups. Through the guidance of our Internation
al Association, problems of learning modalities might be kept more con
scious. In addition, guidelines regarding aging professionals might be
formulated within a larger discussion of the process of aging and age
limits relative to supervisors and training analysts.
