Kinetic models of adsorptive enzyme systems involving slow conformatio
nal changes in the enzyme molecule were considered. The rate of revers
ible adsorption of a monomeric or oligomeric enzyme was assumed to be
low in comparison with the rate of the enzymic reaction. A model with
slow isomerization of the enzyme bound to the adsorbent containing spe
cific enzyme binding sites was also analyzed. Equations describing the
kinetics of the adsorptive enzyme systems have been obtained for the
casks when the substrate-enzyme binding steps are in rapid equilibrium
and when the rates of these steps are comparable to that of the catal
ytic breakdown of the enzyme-substrate complex. Conditions were specif
ied under which the kinetic curves for product accumulation had a lag
period or an initial burst.
