An optimized method to determine biogenic amines and other amines in w
ine with pre-column derivatization with o-phthaldialdehyde is reported
. Determination of the different amines has been carried out using a p
olarity gradient elution technique involving methanol and sodium aceta
te buffer. The method has been optimized in terms of its precision and
accuracy assessed by statistical means using formula derived for the
purpose of treating determined number sets of data. After validation,
the method was applied to determine amines in red, white, and rose win
es of Rioja region.
