DIET AND PREY SELECTION OF PIKEPERCH (STIZOSTEDION-LUCIOPERCA (L)) INLAKE VESIJARVI ANALYZED WITH A LOGIT MODEL

Diet and prey selection of piscivorous pikeperch (Stizostedion luciope rca (L.)) was studied with a multicategory legit model. Statistically significant (log-likelihood statistics, p < 0.05) differences were fou nd in the proportions of pikeperch feeding on different fish species a t different seasons and at various weights. The differences among the two sampling years were found non-significant. The proportion of pikep erch feeding on perch (Perca fluviatilis L.) increased as the abundanc e of perch increased in the sampling area. It can be concluded that pi keperch are positively selective for perch. The logistic approach was found useful in order to analyse the feeding pattern of pikeperch.
