Abstract
In scrapie-infected cells, Congo red inhibits both the replication of the infectious agent and accumulation of the protease-resistant form o f PrP (PrP-res). In this report, we show that Congo red prolongs the i ncubation periods of hamsters experimentally infected with two differe nt strains of scrapie.
