The title complex was synthesized by the reaction of copper(I) iodide
and tetrakis(ethylthio)-tetrathiafulvalene (TTC2-TTF) in acetonitrile
under argon atmosphere. The new compound, [(CuI)(2)TTC2-TTF], crystall
izes in the monoclinic system, space group P2(1)/m with unit-cell dime
nsions a=9.843(2), b=12.946 (2), c=10.079(1) Angstrom, beta=99.91(1)de
grees, V=1265.2(4) Angstrom(3), and Z=2. It is a neutral 2:1 (metal/li
gand) complex in which each metal ion is tetrahedrally coordinated by
two bridging iodide ions and two sulfur atoms from TTC2-TTF to form co
ordination polymeric chains. The average Cu-I and Cu-S bond lengths ar
e 2.601 and 2.369 Angstrom, respectively. The complex was doped with i
odine to afford [(CuI)(2)TTC2-TTF]I-1.5 which exhibits a conductivity
of 2x10(-3) Scm(-1) at 25 degrees C for a compacted pellet.
