Abstract
Regarding 2-anthrylethylenes which undergo a photochemical cis-to-tran s one-way isomerization, their preparative methods are presented. The isomerization of ArCH=CHPh and ArCH=CH(2-naphthyl) (Ar: 2-anthryl) pro ceeds through a quantum chain process slightly more efficiently than A rCH=CH(t)Bu. The origin of the high efficiency in the quantum chain pr ocess of these ethylenes is discussed.
