Abstract
The electrochemical behavior of the di-mu-oxo, mu-oxo-mu-sulfido and d
i-mu-sulfido dinuclear molybdenum(V) complexes ligating a series of di
thiocarbamates, [Mo2O4-nSn(R(2)dtc)(2)] (n=0-2; R(2)dtc(-)=dithiocarba
mate), was investigated in dichloromethane. Each complex undergoes a o
ne-electron quasi-reversible reduction, followed by a homogeneous chem
ical reaction, except for the di-mu-sulfide complex Mo2O2S2(Ph(2)dtc)(
2)] which shows a complicated electrochemical process. The chemical st
ability of the one-electron reduction products of [Mo2O4-nSn(R(2)dtc)(
2)] increases with increase in the number of bridging sulfides and in
the electron-donating ability of the substituents on the dithiocarbama
te ligands.
