Abstract
A Cameca 4f ion microprobe has been used for the in-situ, high spatial -resolution analysis (< 30 mum) of delta O-18 in silicate and carbonat e minerals. External reproducibility is consistently similar to that p redicted by counting statistics (currently +/-0.6 parts per thousand 1 sigma). General correlations between instrumental mass bias and chemic al composition are observed. However, instrumental mass bias is minera l specific, and simple chemical models cannot be used to predict instr umental fractionation.
