This paper deals with problems of shock bads in an electrical power sy
stem (EPS). It is shown that a mathematical simulation of the processe
s created by shock loads does not take into consideration the appearan
ce of electrical energy distortions (upper harmonies, voltage oscillat
ions) in real EPS. These effects are most pronounced when high-power t
hyristor switches are used. Shock bads are shown to create dangerous t
orsional oscillations of the power machine shafts. Investigations on a
digital-analogue-physical complex under conditions similar to full sc
ale confirm the importance of this line of research.
