Abstract
Formulae for flux and flux density in leakage channels and currents an d voltages in parts of the windings are derived. For the condition cal led half-period saturation all the parameters mentioned are sinusoidal during every half period. It is possible to use the methods and progr ams for conventional two-winding power transformers with sinusoidal cu rrents to design a reactor for normal operation close to that conditio n. Reliable design permits the use of high flux density (up to 2.5 T) in steel. The dimensions, material consumption and losses of such a re actor are practically similar to those of a transformer of the same po wer. This method of analysis has been confirmed by the testing of a si ngle-phase controlled reactor rated at 60 MVar, 500 kV at the Zaporozh 'ye Transformer Plant and at the ''Belyi Rast'' substation.
