Luminescence stimulated from feldspar using wavelengths in the infrare
d region can be applied to the dating of sedimentary grains. Reported
stimulation spectra are very similar for a wide range of feldspars, bu
t their emission spectra show greater variation. For accurate dating i
t is critical that unstable infrared-stimulated luminescence (IRSL) si
gnals are removed from the laboratory-irradiated grains. Several appro
aches to isolate a thermally stable signal are described.
