Self-diffusion of Mn in powder compacts of alpha-MnS has been studied
with the use of the radioactive tracer Mn-54. The experiments were car
ried out between 1073 K and 1323 K and in the sulfur vapour pressure i
nterval (10 divided-by 4 .10(3)) Pa by means of the tracer-sectioning
method. It was confirmed that under the conditions used in this experi
ment the dominant point defects are doubly charged vacancies and elect
ron holes. The activation energy of the diffusion equals (142 +/- 10)
kJ/mol.
