Abstract
The differences in edge zone structure between components machined by hard turning and grinding are reported. The factors governing the deve lopment of the edge zone effect are also analysed, and the results ver ified by machining tests. Finally, the potential and limitations of ha rd machining with regard to the workpiece finish which can be achieved are discussed.
