Pn. Finlay et Ac. Mitchell, PERCEPTIONS OF THE BENEFITS FROM THE INTRODUCTION OF CASE - AN EMPIRICAL-STUDY, Management information systems quarterly, 18(4), 1994, pp. 353-370
Computer-aided software engineering (CASE) tools have generated much i
nterest as potential means for easing the software development and mai
ntenance bottleneck. To date, the picture regarding their contribution
is incomplete and confused, particularly concerning the realization o
f productivity and quality gains. An in-depth study of one company's e
xperiences with the introduction of CASE is described. Quantitative da
ta is available to allow objective comparison of changes in productivi
ty and IS quality consequent upon the CASE introduction. Questionnaire
s were used to determine the perceptions of both developers and their
customers to the new methodology and tools. The importance to the succ
essful introduction of CASE of the human resource, technical, and mana
gerial infrastructural factors are also investigated.
