Abstract
First, based on a review of current manufacturing trends, argues for a new type of logistical infrastructure supporting agility and quick re sponse to global markets. Second, shows how this new logistical infras tructure is being put in place. Describes the Global TransPark project in North Carolina and its empirical support aimed at creating a logis tical environment to improve manufacturing competitiveness in an era o f international sourcing and sales and speed-to-market. The Global Tra nsPark is one, and arguably the most advanced, logistical infrastructu re for agile manufacturing being developed in the USA. Based on findin gs from company surveys, it concludes that the new focus of logistics must be the linkages within the organization and throughout the entire organizational network.
