Ab. Das et A. Chatterjee, ANALYSIS OF GENOME IN RELATION WITH SEED PROTEIN DIVERSITY OF CASSIA USING SDS-POLYACRYLAMIDE GEL-ELECTROPHORESIS, Bangladesh journal of botany, 23(2), 1994, pp. 167-174
Karyotype analysis and seed protein electrophoresis of three species o
f Cassia showed minute structural alteration of chromosomes associated
with the variation in their banding patterns. Somatic chromosome numb
er 2n=28 were found in both C. siamea and C. spectabilis and C. fistul
a showed 2n = 24 chromosomes. Much similarities between C. siamea and
C. spectabilis following SDS-PAGE and Jaccard's similarity coefficient
(Sj) analysis resembles close relatives of their ancestry. Whereas le
ss affinity of macromolecular behaviour of C. fistula showed a genetic
drift from the other. Different protein bands ranged from 2241.60 kDa
to 24.90 kDa. The investigated storage protein diversity in the speci
es seems to be genetical in nature which suggests the criptic modifica
tion of base sequences keeping stable species identity.
