Photoelectron spectroscopy using monochromatized synchrotron radiation
has been made to study the 2s(2)2p4nl correlation satellites of the N
e atom in the range of photoelectron kinetic energy E(K) from 30 eV to
160 eV (hv = 80 approximately 220 eV). For five main satellites inclu
ding 2p4(3P)np 2P (n = 3, 4) and 2P4(1D)3s 2D states, the (satellite)/
(2p-mainline) intensity ratio has been determined as a function of E(K
). From a combination of these relative intensities with the reported
2p cross section, partial cross sections for the satellite excitation
have also been obtained. The intensity ratios for the satellites are n
ot constant over the photon energy region studied, indicating that the
dynamic electron correlation cannot be neglected.
