Abstract
We discuss the influence of the limited available number of photorefra ctive centers on the holographic storage capacity of phase holograms i n photorefractive materials. We compare this limitation with the other sources of noise that also limit the holographic storage capacity of photorefractive materials. As an example, we apply our formulae to gra y level images stored in a BaTiO3 photorefractive sample.
