This state-of-the-art report includes a short history on the early dev
elopment of conveyor belts for transporting and placing concrete. The
design of conveyor systems is discussed in relation to the properties
of the plastic concrete, the delivery rate and the job specifications.
Bell widths, speeds, and angles of inclination are considered as they
apply to specific site requirements. The three types of concrete conv
eyors are the portable, feeder and spreader types and their particular
applications are covered. Field practices in the selection, use and m
aintenance of conveyors are described. The economics of bell conveyor
placement is discussed. The quality of the in-place concrete and inspe
ction procedures are stressed.
