Ja. Fernandezrepresa et al., ESOPHAGEAL LEIOMYOMA ENUCLEATION THROUGH VIDEO THORACOSCOPY, Revista espanola de enfermedades digestivas, 88(11), 1996, pp. 799-800
We report the case of a 57 years old male patient presenting with pyro
sis and dysphagia, A mid-third esophageal leiomyoma was diagnosed. The
tumour was resected through a right video-thoracoscopic approach and
simultaneous intraoperative esophagoscopy was performed. The postopera
tive course was uneventful and six months after surgery neither relaps
ing symptoms nor radiologic pathological findings were observed. We co
nsider that symptomatic leiomyoma is a good indication for video-assis
ted thoracoscopic enucleation. The possible postoperative complication
s (esophageal fistula, esophageal pseudodiverticulum) may be minimized
by means of an adequate surgical technique.
