Abstract
NOEs are observed between the protons of the acid moieties and the pro tons of the alcohol moieties in some alpha-methoxy-alpha-trifluorometh ylphenylacetic acid (MTPA, 1), 2-(2'-methoxy-1'naphthyl)-3-5,dichlorob enzoic acid (MNCB, 2), and 2'-methoxy-1,1'-binaphthyl-2-carboxylic aci d (MBNC, 3) esters. This initial observation could be another clue to determine the absolute configurations of chiral alcohols.
