The population structure of the black-striped field mouse (Apodemus ag
rarius) is analysed in the conditions of the intensively exploited agr
icultural landscape of the Vychodoslovenska Nizina lowland. During sta
tionary research (1986-1991), 1585 individuals of A. agrarius were cau
ght. In the total catch a statistically significant predominance of ma
les (53.2%) was noticed which was more significant in the breeding sea
son. The variation of the average weight of the mature individuals was
analysed. Distinct annual variations of population densities in A. ag
rarius as well as high frequency of samples with very high densities a
re connected with the crowding character of the species.
