Abstract
A sensor system based on quartz thickness shear mode resonators is dev eloped for the detection of organic pollutants in pure water, drinking water, and sea water. Unpolar polymer coatings with a glass transitio n below operating temperature and calix[8]arenes have been found as mo st sensitive, reversible and reliable for working in an aqueous enviro nment. Mass changes and changes in viscoelastic properties of the coat ing caused by analyte sorption contribute to the sensor response.
