The possibility of creating a plane optical waveguide with mobile bord
ers is proposed on the basis of crystals with the property of cleavage
. In such a structure it is easy to modulate the wave phase and change
the frequency. The condition of phase matching which is necessary for
efficient generation of second harmonics can be achieved by changing
the thickness of the intermediate layer of the waveguide. The phenomen
a mentioned here allow us to determine with great accuracy the value o
f the refraction index of many liquids. Thus one can develop an optoch
emical sensor on the basis of plane optical waveguide with mobile bord
ers.
