G. Coudegaussen et al., GRADUAL INPUT OF SAHARAN DUST IN THE SILT Y DEPOSITS OF THE EASTERN CAPE-VERDE ISLANDS, Comptes rendus de l'Academie des sciences. Serie II. Mecanique, physique, chimie, astronomie, 319(11), 1994, pp. 1343-1349
The silty deposits of the eastern Cape Verde islands bear a significan
t proportion of Saharan dust. Some silts (group I) have kept the origi
nal characters of dust. Other silts (group II) show mineralogical modi
fications related to an incipient alteration and/or a pollution from t
he local substratum. Lastly, the silts of group III are distinguished
by the grain-size modifications and principally by the neoformation in
the low flats. These results are compared with the available data con
cerning the present dust, the Holocene alterations in Canary island an
d deep ocenic drillings.
