Mt. Seielstad et al., CONSTRUCTION OF HUMAN Y-CHROMOSOMAL HAPLOTYPES USING A NEW POLYMORPHIC A-TRANSITION TO G-TRANSITION, Human molecular genetics, 3(12), 1994, pp. 2159-2161
We report the discovery of a polymorphic A to G transition found on th
e human Y chromosome by sequencing Y-specific sequence-tagged sites (S
TSs). It shows maximal linkage disequilibrium with a previously descri
bed Alu insertional polymorphism. We analyze further an apparently Afr
ican Y chromosome which seems to have entered a Mexican Mayan populati
on several generations ago. Using the newly discovered transition and
the Y-specific polymorphic Alu insertion, we discuss how the chromosom
e's haplotype information might be used to answer questions of human o
rigins and migrations.
