Ureteral obstruction as a complication of aortofemoral graft implantat
ion develops more often than initially thought. The current literature
reflects controversy regarding incidence as well as therapeutic metho
d of choice. This retrospective study examined 10 patients who develop
ed ureteral obstruction after graft implantation. The interval between
the bypass-operation and diagnosis of ureteral obstruction was from 1
to 30 months (mean interval: 7.4 months). 8 patients were treated wit
h double J-stents. Ureterolysis with intraperitonealisation of the ure
ter was performed in 7 patients. Obstruction was resolved in 6 patient
s and in 1 patient a nephrectomy had to be performed. A review of the
literature is given and urological follow-up and therapeutic modalitie
s in these patients are discussed.UreteraI obstruction as a complicati
