Diagnosis of a female emergency patient who was admitted to hospital w
ith the clinical pattern of anuria revealed retroperitoneal fibrosis w
hich had caused the onset of renal insufficiency. After ureterolysis a
nd intraperitonealisation of both ureters, the female patient was show
n to be symptom-free. The cause of the retroperitoneal fibrosis could
not be detected in this case. The case report is followed by a list of
the most important symptoms of retroperitoneal fibrosis. A survey of
differential diagnoses and methods of therapy of Morbus Ormond are pre
sented.
