Many of you have read Ellen Baer's and Suzanne Gordon's article, ''Mon
ey Managers are Unravelling the Thread of Nursing,'' in a recent issue
of the American Journal of Nursing. The following article, written by
Bob Lederer, a long time activist for alternative, holistic treatment
s for persons with AIDS, adds the community's voice to nursing's conce
rns about the constraints placed on health care delivery by undue emph
asis on the monetary bottom line. I hope a recognition of this shared
concern will fuel further collaboration between nursing and community
groups toward a more humane, less mercenary ideal of treatment for per
sons with AIDS, and for health care reform in general.
