G. Avlonitis et al., A GENERALIZED CORRELATION FOR THE INTERACTION COEFFICIENTS OF NITROGEN-HYDROCARBON BINARY-MIXTURES, Fluid phase equilibria, 101, 1994, pp. 53-68
The present study introduces a generalized correlation for the interac
tion coefficients of N2(i)/hydrocarbon(j) binary systems as a function
of the reduced temperature of nitrogen (T(ri)) and the acentric facto
r of the hydrocarbon (omega(j)). It is applicable to the translated-mo
dified Peng-Robinson equation of state (t-mPR EoS) and the original PR
as well. The prediction results for N2/n-alkane binary systems are sa
tisfactory with an average absolute error in bubble-point pressure bel
ow 6%. Equally good results are obtained for the binaries of N2 with n
aphthenes, iso-alkanes and aromatics. Use of temperature independent i
nteraction coefficients is recommended for the N2/alkene systems. The
proposed correlation is limited to pressures lower than 500 bar, and g
ives better prediction than those reported previously.
