Abstract
The synthesis of a series of soluble 5-alkoxy substituted isophthalami des is described. Condensation of 1,3-diaminobenzene or 2,6-diaminopyr idine with alkoxy substituted isophthaloylchlorides yields the title p olyaramides. The influence of the alkyl chain length on the supramolec ular structure of the polymer is investigated by X-ray diffraction exp eriments. Initial results indicate a lamellar type solid lattice for t he polymers studied here.
